"But suppose we just get nuisance level license fee amounts from 800 licensees, say $2M a pop..."
WHY would any of these (smaller) infringers pay us $2M or so ???
If they don't pay, then what ? Drop your price to $1M ? $500K ? $200K, What is your hammer to force them ? File a suit against them all ? We initially told HTC their potential exposure was almost $300Mil, but in court we only asked for $10 Mil, and the Jury thought we were only due $1Mil. What is going to happen when we tell Infringers we want only $2Mil; what bottom dollar amount will that translate to when they write an actual license fee check ?
Additionally, how many suits can we engage at once ? How many law firms will we need to farm and coordinate those suits out to ? What focus/energy/expense will that necessarily massive "lawsuit mill" detract from our efforts against the large infringers ?
That plan is not practical at any fee level much beyond the kind of petty cash amount Disney paid for a license fee; which was $20,000. Your numbers don't work for PTSC stockholders even at $100K per license.
I sure hope they have a better plan than yours.
So far, I'm unsure they even HAVE a plan.
