Yes. I'd really like to know both, especially the number of suspected infringers notified and the "notification rate" (new notifications generated per month, or week for that matter).
I have no idea whether disclosure of such notification info, ultimately to those notified and those subject to being notified and/or their suppliers, could have some negative impact on negotiations. I would just as soon let the likes of TI, Qualcom and ARM dangle with no idea how much impact our notification activity will have on them, as I suspect this lack of visibility would improve our negotiating position with them and those of their ilk. If this info could negatively impact negotiations, I can live without it!
As for the count, I posted about this recently, and another HL had a conflicting opinion - purely from the legal view (not the business view, or tax consideration view, or any other view). How would you count the number of past licensees? Include subsidiaries, or not? How about spin-offs from corporations already licensed? Any money there? (I seriously doubt it). Yet I know of two that were announced and included in the "LL count". That kind of skews the numbers/averages, doesn't it?
I'd just like to see a current total number of licensees, regardless of whether they are a subsidiary, spin-off or whatever, where the value of the individual license to that entity was over $250K (or whatever number you prefer). Something meaningful in the form of a measuring stick, not that it really makes anything more predictable going forward.
FWIW,
