The company whose shareholders were better than its management
At first I was surprised at the amount of posters who wouldn´t invest again in Ecuador, but then I realised that most of you are probably under water, unlike myself who used this great opportunity to buy in.
Not underwater yet <g> but my reasoning goes like this:
The market has now witnessed several hamfisted actions on the part of the govt. of Ecuador (as distinct from legal actions of third parties, such as environmentalists). This sets the overall tone of investor perception, which is an important variable in such a small, high risk market.
To me this suggests that the very mention of the word Ecuador will give many investors pause for quite some time. Most won't dig into the detail the way we have, and may miss an opportunity, but the overall effect will be to limit interest, and thus potential appreciation of Ecuadorean investment. You have to have someone to sell to to realize a gain, and this govt. really thinned out the herd IMO.
My judgement is therefore based on what I believe the market perceives, although I've obviously taken a hit, so that's part of it as well.
