It has a lower cost compared to a CCD process. CCD requires an analog to digital conversion. Once in the digital state it is then processed to file. It requires a lot more overhead and power compared to a CMOS process.

My thinking is, with the CMOS process, e.Digital might have an ability to further remove the normally associated between the sensor and final file creation, eliminating the overhead of the bit map process. They do not bit map.

With that, they may have the ability of formatting the photo-site of the CMOS matrix directly.

I run this through my mind over and over...can they utilize the photo-site directly and drive the data segments from there, directly into non volatile memory?

If that is the case, one heck of a short cut, while reducing components, PCB footprint and power as compared to a standard CMOS arrangement.
