Poetpower, that is a very interesting supposition. Perhaps, the challenge of quantum computer is the holy grail that scientists are really after. Perhaps, being out of the corporate day-to-day and stay in the lab is just what the doctor ordered for our scientist. Again, we will never know unless we ask Dr. Taylor, but it is an interesting supposition none-the-less. It might be fair to assume that POET was left in good hinds for the team to deal with the grind while the inventor just continues doing what he loves. That would be a win-win for both sides of this supposition. However, even if so, would we really ever be told such as truth ... unless after about 16 Guinesses something slips out? Plausible and a very interesting point nonetheless.
