LookinGIntolt: IBM's solution fits in the silicon photonic section.

Which means that IBM's solution has no laser. Silicon photonics can do a lot of things, but it does not have a light source (laser). It always needs an external light source which is not monolithically integrated and cumbersome (read: expensive) in manufacturing.
