Dear POET friends,
As a child my father, the Vicar of a small Welsh Parish, sang the song 'thanks for the memory' at his farewell do at the church hall. The verses were his own words drafted to remind the parishioners of the many amusing happenings of his times as their Vicar, they were meant to be funny, and indeed they were, but the general effect of his song on his audience was quite the opposite to that intended; all the lovely, but rather emotional, Welsh ladies of his parish started sobbing and reaching for their hankies as it reminded them of the imminent departure of their much loved Vicar.
The Conversation started by DNWL in 'there is real hope' and added to by many of the great minds on this board, Oogee, Rainer, and FairchildJ amongst others, has to be one of the most important ever produced on this board. If you are ever wish to understand why POET may be the Holy Grail of Universal Memory, which ultimately will make investors here the fortunes we all sense are achievable, the conversation is a must read.
The Thyristor Memory Cell patent, and particularly the benefits pointed out in figure 31, spell out what must be one of the most significant technical advances in Integrated Circuit technology of this century. The point at which the speed of light and electronics are combined.
There is another non-law like Moore’s Law, it is the Law of Unintended Consequences. The real benefits of POET will emerge from the innovation that Dr Taylor’s invention enables. The efforts made due body of research that has gone into the work-arounds needed to deal with the limitations of conventional memory, will now be able to focus on the real problems of processing huge amounts of data using universal memory provided by POET.
Like Dad's song the consequences simply cannot be predicted other than the benefits to mankind will be huge.
with deep gratitude to the Memory ++ contributors, but above all to Dr Taylor and his team,
