The company whose shareholders were better than its management
I have to strongly agree. Selling out to Ecuador makes no sense from my point of view. I really fail to see how any of us would win under that scenario.
What is it that we have been fighting against for the last year? Do we really want to see Ecuador nationalize FDN??? This would do irreparable harm to the reputation of Ecuador and its people well into the future.
Just when Ecuador is getting its act together, to do something like this would be beyond crazy and say we are not open for business and foreign investment go away. If I was India or China I would never step foot in Ecuador with that kind of thinking.
This would feed right into the media who loved to write scary articles about nationalization.
Another thing, do you honestly think Acosta had the best in mind for his people?? Some of his comments were among the most irrational things I have ever heard coming out of a poilitiian's mouth anywhere and that's saying something. Environment this and that all the time....nothing else of any value. Don't get me wrong I'm all for the environment but its all amout balance. Correa has said a lot of responsible things on this front......"responsible mining = common sense"....everyone wins.
So they offer us 9 bucks a share.....the investor loses big time, Ecuador loses big time (reputation down the toilet) and then just see thee uproar from the oil companies, miners and thousands of other businesses in Ecuador. This kind of negotiated nationalism would turn into forced nationalism in a big hurry. This would set a very dangerous precedent.
I always respect the view of others but this ain't going to happen plain and simple.
