This scenerio makes absolutely no sense.
First, where would Ecuador find the $1 to $2 billion to invest? Second, why would they even bother to do that. With a stroke of a pen, they can "nationalize" FDN and that would cost them nothing (except all future foreign investments, etc.). Third, as Safe said, even if Ecuador do pay, how's that gonna benefit us retails with such a still much undervalued bid (may be just the satifaction that Kinross could not steal it)?
What's Otto thinking? It only makes sense if he can talk Ecuador into paying us "fair value", what are those chances?
