Speaking of worthless, I still have some fractional paper money I brought home from a visit to China in the 80's. Tiny little bills with an army truck on one, and an airplane and a ship on the others. Here's one of them:

I went into a department store expecting to change a 1 yuan note for these things and the clerk looked at me like I was from outer space. I explained that I wanted them as souvenirs and she just opened a drawer and handed me a whole bunch - no charge. I found out later that the stores considered them a nusiance and didn't even account for them. They gave them in change, but the only time they were spent was by old ladies who saved them up till they had enough for some small item. No one else bothered and you'd see them lying on the floor or in the street, which I suppose is where the old ladies got them from.
