Keep in mind, the opinions on this site are for the most part speculation and are not necessarily the opinions of the company WITHOUT PREJUDICE
Tomandjerry, you said "Many say " look at their piers - they are all down". The difference is that their piers weren't speculated to have one of the largest gold discoveries ever". The bashers always want to compare SLI valuations to its piers and in doing so believe SLI is still way over valued."
I would argue comparing a company to its peers-- whether gold explorer or car manufacturer or whatever else-- is one of easiest and most telling ways to guage a company's value. We do it everyday when deciding what products to buy. We compare price to quality and make our purchase decisions accordingly. Just because SLI was speculated to be one of the largest gold discoveries ever (good product adverstising), doesn't exlude it from having to measure up to its peers. Sort of like how Stride gum is advertised as the longest lasting gum, but fails to deliver when compared to its peers.
Northern Dynasty's Pebble deposit actually is one of the world's largest gold deposits (sorry to compare). It has a total measured and indicated plus inferred resource of 107mil ounces of gold, plus other metals including 81 billion pounds of copper. Northern Dynasty is partnered with Anglo American to bring this into production at Anglo American's expense at a cost to Northern Dynasty of giving up 50% ownership of the Pebble deposit. So technically, Northern Dynasty owns half the deposit, but with no further expenses. It took them 11 years to define this deposit and get to where they are now. Northern Dynasty currently trades for around 5.50, with a market cap of 515mil.
SLI's market cap at its peak was 300mil. When people talk about $5, $10, $25, $100, $1000, $2000 share prices for SLI without one economic drill hole yet, is that really reasonable? I realize this current slump with SLI can change with good drill results, and with the right results could easily surpass Northern Dynasty's share price. I hope for everyone's sake they do hit big, but at some point, how SLI compares to its peers will matter: whether that's to the good or to the bad still remains to be seen.
