Peru's main stock indexes end higher as mining shares gained ground

Lima, Aug. 26 (ANDINA). Peru's main stock market indexes ended higher Friday, as various mining companies gained ground following an announcement Thursday about an agreement with the government on a new tax.
The broad General Index ended 1.65% stronger at 19,795.94. The blue-chip Selective Index closed 1.72% higher at 27,492.87.
Copper producer Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde gained 1.58% to end at $38.60. Base metals mining company Southern Copper Corp. rose 1.91% to close at $32.00.
Silver and lead mining company Volcan Compania Minera climbed 3.17% to end at 2.93 soles ($1.07).
Prime Minister Salomon Lerner Ghitis announced Thursday an agreement with mining companies to implement a new tax that could raise about 3.0 billion soles ($1.1 billion) a year.
