Advancing North America's 4th Largest Gold Reserves Towards Development
Spurred by last year's encouraging drill results, Detour Gold Corporation has started an extensive drilling program at the Detour Lake Mine with six rigs on site.
Detour Gold plans to conduct 60,000 metres of drilling at Detour Lake over the course of this year.
This latest drilling program will focus on the west side of the proposed open pit, according to a company news release.
More than 332,170 metres of drilling had been done on the Detour Lake deposit since Detour Gold's acquisition of the site in January 2007.
A mine feasibility study, which will incorporate much of the data collected from these tests, is expected to be completed by the middle of this year.
The Detour Lake project is 180 kilometres northeast of Cochrane and approximately eight kilometres west of the Ontario-Quebec border.
The property encompasses 265 square kilometres and includes a deposit which is situated near the former Detour Lake mine. That mine was operated by Placer Dome and produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999.
The mineral resource is contained within two open pits, West Pit and Calcite Zone.
According to the news release issued by Detour Gold last week, results from 24 infill holes within the Calcite Zone " show good continuity of the gold mineralization with several wide intercepts outside the proposed open pit."
To the west of the former open pit area, results from 10 infill holes, including five previous drill holes that were extended plus six infill holes in the West Pit area "confirmed continuity of the gold mineralization."
The company is currently going through a permit-approval process in support a mid-2010 construction start.
