Congress isn't the only institution exempt from this abomination. The administration has accepted requests for waivers from others....not the least, unions. At this point, I'm less concerned about the revenue provisions of Obamacare than I am about Chief Justice Roberts' decision. With all the possibilities, who would have come up with that scenario? Everyone thought Kennedy would be the pinch point in the decision. Instead, rumors were that he worked vigorously, lobbying Roberts to vote with him and the Conservative judges. The talking heads are having a field day commenting on why Roberts did what he did. There are theories that he did it with a more important, long range Conservative plan in mind. Some say he was concerned about the public's low opinion of the Court and wanted to "prove" the Court could set aside political bias in, at least, this decision. If he, in fact, acted to "improve" the public perception of the Court, rather than decide this case according to his judicial bent, I think he should be condemned for doing so....but that would be a stretch coming from someone touted as being brilliant by both sides. With a little luck and hard work by the GOP, the upcoming election could result in a GOP presidential victory and the election of a GOP Senate. Roberts' decision to label the mandated revenue as a "tax" is important because it allows for legislative changes by a simple majority of 51%, under reconcilliation. Who knows, Roberts' decision could be a blessing in disguise. |
