DENVER — A judge says federal regulators' civil complaint against a former chief financial officer and a former accountant for Qwest Communications International Inc. will likely head to trial in January or February.
The Securities and Exchange Commission's complaint contends the way former Qwest executive Robert Woodruff, former Qwest accountant Frank Noyes and others handled certain sales in 1999 through 2001 gave investors a skewed view of the Denver-based company's performance.
U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger had hoped to set an exact trial date Tuesday but said the parties' lawyers don't appear ready.
She urged them to limit their witness lists and exhibits. As outlined by attorneys so far, the trial could last 12 weeks. Former Qwest CEO Joseph Nacchio's criminal trial, which resulted in insider trading convictions, was 14 days.
