LONDON — Cornice Inc., a privately-held vendor of miniature disk drives, has appointed Camillo Martino as president and chief executive officer.

Martino comes to Cornice (Longmont, Colorado) from Zoran Corp., where he was chief operating officer. Prior to Zoran, Martino spent nearly 14 years with National Semiconductor in its U.S., Japan, and South-East Asia-Pacific operations.

Camillo is a seasoned and accomplished executive, as well as an industry-wide recognized leader, who brings a fantastic track record of successes. I am confident that his leadership will drive Cornice to continued business growth, said Kevin Magenis, co-founder and chairman of Cornice, in a statement.

Cornice is in a prime position to become a leader in the exploding consumer storage solutions market, Martino said.

Cornice has also begun selling a 4.0-gigabyte Storage Element intended to increase the memory capacity of consumer electronics devices such as MP3 players, cell phones, personal video recorders and GPS devices. The unit is priced at $65 per unit in quantities of 10,000.

The 4.0-Gbyte SE includes a sensor that allows the unit to detect when it is being dropped and park the disk drive head before the unit hits the ground.
