It's really a matter of memory architecture......the RAM(SRAM) is matched to a minimum of one read/write block of the memory.....typically 256bytes for NAND.

However, they have additional techniques for streaming of data and concurrent reading / writing techniques to the primary memory....be it NOR or NAND.
