The temporary ban on short selling was for certain financial stocks only in the US ... and Canada has followed suit to a lesser extent. Cdn banks traded on the US exchange were also part of the non shortables.

Investing in a company makes sense ... gambling that a company's value is going to decrease or benefiiting from it leaves too much potential for corruption and should be banned entirely. The argument that it adds liqudity is really just unregulated gambling and really is immoral when you conisder you either are hoping to see a busines fail and beneffiting from it.

A collective effort could be made by a small group to negatively impact tjhe reputation of a company .... i.e. Short maple leaf foods before introducing the listeriosis virus as a product handler ... you can make way more money ... tainting water at a water bottling plant etc etc.
