I think a substantial part of the extra charge is because I put in limit orders, not market. The volume is so low in these stccks, that I am always afraid that on a market order some "specialist" will see the bid, stick in a $5+ ask price and take me to the cleaners. So I use limits. But this seems to trigger extra commission charges on these stocks.

I don't think the even block size is the issue as it is a fixed percentage.
