Hi, sherwood!
The vein itself is a tabular feature, however the gold within that vein might be dispersed erratically. I'm not sure if it is associated with any other mineralization (e.g. sulphides such as arsenopyrite) or not.
You have to remember that the core sample being removed is slightly under 2 inches in diameter, and if the vein your drilling is a half meter or so thick, it's just a minute sample of the whole being taken.
Anyway, I guess time...and sample assays will tell.
Have a good day!
