San Gold Corporation - one of Canada's most exciting new exploration companies and gold producers.
..who knows, looking back too 2001 San Antonio had just gone through a major mine complex retrofit seeing $ 180,000,000 being spent on a new Mill and facilities up &down. Young Dale Ginn had been key geologist ( 10 YRS ) and later mine manager seeing gold averaging .22 gr at times. The decission to tye up with 80 yrs of Greens past drilling was good timing in buying out the mine and becoming Lanlord of alot of knowledge..PRIOR 2001 the mine had good knowledge of the seven structures with current work working the deeps with yrs of future mine planing in place to continue but gold below $ 250./oz was cutting it fine..PS "Technical report 2001:
mining is exploiting the lower set of stockwork veins, which may continue to step to the east in further en echelon steps such as the Deep East zone, and potential further steps to the east of that. In addition, there is also potential for another new set of en echelon stockwork veins and associated shear veins 500-1500 feet below (east-northeast) of the current area of mining. The down dip projection of veins currently being mined is still open; increasing displacement and strike length of shear veins at the lowest levels suggests that they may continue significantly to depth, although the A vein system is thinning and approaching the maximum dimensions of other stockwork veins developed above, suggesting that it may be near its limits. Other areas of high exploration potential within or near the mine workings include (i) the D shaft area between 30 and 4920 levels, where vein systems in the 30-200 and Puff subdrifts, and the Deep West shear veins may continue, (ii) potential for a small shear system in the footwall of the C shear vein below 5040 level that may represent the top of a new shear vein, (iii) areas southeast of the historic area of mining where the SAM unit obtains a 200-400 feet thickness that is comparable to that in the historically mined areas. Further en echelon steps of stockwork veins east of and beyond the 40, 50, and 60 stockwork veins may occur in the latter area. Outside the immediate area of the mine workings, exploration potential exists (i) in other portions of the SAM unit where the unit forms thickened lobes of optimum thickness, or where shear zones are developed, (ii) in unit A, a gabbro-mafic volcanic unit south of the SAM unit, and (iii) where the northwest trending Rice Lake shear zone intersects the SAM unit and unit A. .!!!
[ This report summarizes a program of undergound structural geological mapping at the San Antonio mine conducted by the writer during January, 2001. The work was completed for Harmony Gold (Canada) Inc. at the request of Mr. D. Ginn, Chief Geologist, to assess the structural geological style, controls and setting of vein systems within the mine for application to mine planning and underground exploration. Underground geological maps of mine workings produced by Harmony geologists and historical mine maps were used as a base for the work. As a result of the study, several exploration targets and methods are recommended. To conform with mine grids, distance measurements and grid coordinates reported for undergound are in feet. Work was concentrated on levels where active mining was taking place, mainly 30 level, and between 4980 and 4790 levels inclusive.
