Gan, again I agree with you. In terms of global warming it is not that I don't believe or not in it, I think that indeed it has been taking place although at an almost not measurable pace.
The reality of politics and economics completely overrides global warming; just look at the present recession/depression leading to less consumption of fossile fuels; should be great for the environment. The governments should be happy and pleased, finally we are decreasing CO2 emissions. What to they do, they freak out and pump billions into the economy so that we can produce more CO2. They tell us to spend, spend and get more babies for more growth!
The ideal world of continuous growth and propserity and growing population, but at decreasing environmental footprint just does not exist. We can help by developing new green energy sources; but again the reality is that nothing major is there to save us.
Look at hybrides, no doubt there are fuel savings in city driving, but it comes at a hugh environmental cost during manufacturing. Is there any overall energy payback over the life time of the car, I don' know. Known and prooven tecnologies such as nucelar and wind should be implemented at a faster pace, solar also but needs further technological improvements.
