By the way I was wondering whether it was possible to visit the Golden Mile or thereabouts officiallly without fear of being shot (?) or was that a joke?

I have never been to Canada and one of my dreams is to travel through from East to West in as long a time as I might afford, maybe in a motorhome or so. not in winter of course.

and/or maybe, when things work out well for all of us, we meet for a big party.  what do you think?
