Sorry, the softening point of structural steel is typically just under 1500 C, melting at just over 1500C (vs gold at just over 1000 C).
I got thrown off by the "speical case" of the WTC buildings, where the govt false reports claimed softening at vastly lower temperatures. I am an engineer and should know better. Goolging too fast!
The point is that the Au melting point is much higher than the temps at which it was transported via water into our quartz veins.
