PEM's claims are on state, BLM, USFS, and private lands. Some claims (certain ones) allow for tree harvesting. PEM has been able to contract for timbering with 1 or more timber companies this year for a profit of about $300,000. In order to maintain PEM's OSZ claims they need about $300,000 a year to pay claim maintenance expenses. While in ID in June we saw two timbering operations where tree harvesting was in progress on PEM's claims. Was briefed about this by PEM staff while on their claims. I didn't think it realistic either at first. But PEM assured us that that this was the case. A good move by PEM. In addition to what PEM is doing with the trees now, any future permitted mining operation will require tree removal, regardless of where on the OSZ it is located. In the N/W of the U.S. and the OSZ central ID area, forrest harvesting has always been a big industry, even on state and Federal lands. Hope this helps.
