This week the US-China trade war notched up a step further as China applied more tariffs on another US$60bn worth of US goods and with no settlement in sight it looks like both sides are preparing for a protracted war. There is an interesting piece in EEtimes by Junko Yoshida about the perceptions from each side on the dispute. I feel she has caught the essence of the current conflict perfectly. In the short term the ban on Huawei and the tariffs may hurt China, but China plays a long game and this is an opportunity for new suppliers to take over the supply gaps created. It maybe that when the dust settles some US suppliers may find themselves replaced.
