A CNN video by Christiane Amanpour may help shed some light on the diplomatic situation of Singapore and how Singapore threads the needle between China and the West:

Singapore will not become 'vassal state' between China and US, says foreign minister | CNN

With its location on the extremely strategic Strait of Malacca, Singapore has to balance it's diplomatic presentation between China and the rest of the world in addition to taking into consideration the multinational interests of divergent countries that are adjacent to the East China Sea, the South China Sea, the Indian Ocean and actually all of Asia.  As a small island state "diplomacy" is essential for its continued existence and for it to continue to prosper.

How does President Tharman of Singapore thread the needle regarding multinational competing interests in the Asian Pacific Rim?  The recent article below may give some insight:

Singapore needs ‘active foreign policy’ that requires constant engagement: President Tharman | The Straits Times

How do Singapore residents view problems in Singapore?  This article, linked below, from 2022 touches on some of those issues:

So, what is ahead for Singapore in 2024?  That subject is addressed in the link below:

What’s ahead for Singapore in 2024 | The Straits Times

Developing further the already existing ties with Singapore for POET Technologies has some definite advantages over the situation in a country that may not be as adept at balancing wide disparities in national interests with more diplomatic finess, such as the Middle Kingdom.  No one can predict with accuracy what this corner of the world will experience during the next 5,10 or 20 years but as to the question of providing a more stable home for an expansion of manufacturing related to POET Technologies it would certainly appear that Singapore might well fit the needs of that requirement.

Thanks, FJ.
