fairchijisback: One point that should be emphasized regarding suppliers/component partnerships is the fact that POET’s objective/strength is to select the best of breed components. It is a strength that has significant advantages. They have an entire ecosystem to choose the best qualified components to meet their customers needs. And I suspect that the Tier 1 customer(s) have great influence in this selection.

I believe this point cannot be stressed enough – and has not been stressed enough in the past. Monolithic approaches (including POET’s former GaAs approach) suffer from the fact that the platform provider has to develop all the components by themselves. While these components may work and benefit from the monolithic integration, they will likely be only mediocre or even good, but they will certainly not be best of breed.
