I would think the epitaxial formula for the IR detector, which is already the best in class, and which could perhaps still be improved upon?   But unfortunately the existing formula does not work for the VCSEL.   In other words, once they can get the transceiver to work, the detector part of it may not have the same metrics as the optimized stand alone IR detector?
