Phil-v: Optical engine: Is that referring to the VCSEL or the IR detector for a possible NRE?

There's no clear definition of the term Optical Engine. It is used differently by different companies.

I suggest the POET Optical Engine is the integrated VCSEL transceiver, i.e. VCSEL + detector + electronics. However, this is now on my list of questions to the POET management. They should consistently use the same name for the same thing and clearly define what that thing is.

Thanks Rainer. I should have worded it a bit different. I know the other parts of the optical engine, - transistor and other parts are apparently ready for the VCSEL. The term Optical Engine is a bit confusing to me. It's the completed plug in product I think? What I wanted to know is is an "Optical Engine" also necessary for the much simpler IR Detector?

Obviously and unfortunately, we are still hoping that they can make the VCSEL work. It is the product that will demonstrate the promise that copper/photonics can be combined on a chip. Unfortunately, what was eagerly anticipated by all has been reduced to hope. As you said, investing on hope is not a good strategy, but for the longs, that is all we have.

Suresh's decision to focus on production in Singapore, rather than take a different route is the foundation of our recent problems. Those were his priorities, understandably, as he comes from a producer background. I strongly question if that was the right decision, but we will never know if a partner could have been found to help us get there instead? Suresh's decision for the financing, and especially the manner in which it was enabled really needs answering. I know that has been repeated before many times. It has severely weakened the Company in the eyes of the investment community, and places in doubt future financial prospects.
