People, please be aware of what each company's role in the whole process is: Epiworks produces GaAs wafers which are epitaxially coated, as specified by the POET recipe. Wavetek processes these wafers to create chips on them, as specified by the POET recipe."

You are absolutly right, Rainer. But also POET said, that they moved from Anadigics to Wavetek, because of the bidding war. We should not forget, that II-VI won the bidding war and bought Anadigics and also (!) Epiworks. With Epiworks Poet is still working together.

So at the end, II-VI produces GaAs wafers for POET.

That is interesting, as II-VI is a direct competitor on the VSCEL market.

For example read the seeking alpha article, that was posted here on agoracom yesterday: "Besides the existing products, recent acquisitions of Epiworks and Anadigics should help the company improve the position in the semiconductor laser market and build out the VCSEL capacity that is also expected to bear results over the next 12-24 months." AND "Besides a strong Photonics business, the Laser segment is set to benefit from laser processing head & beam delivery components, expected to grow at a CAGR of 22%, and the VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) market, expected to grow at a CAGR of 33%, while the performance product segment is expected to benefit from strong growth expected in the power generation products."

As I wrote in another post once: I don't think, that POET will easily enter den VSCEL market as a no-name company. They need a strong partner, who wants to eat the lunch of his competitors. And I think that II-VI will be this partner. If not, it would be very weird, that a future competitor would work for POET.
