Thanks for pointing that out once again, Fairchij! Can't be overestimated!
Aside from fast p-type transistors (which enable a fast, power-saving, GaAs-based CMOS replacement) integration of all kinds of stuff is POET's principal advantage. You can integrate electronical, optical, digital and analog circuitry all intro a single die. And you can interface different dies using those VCSELs.
By the way, EE Times has a new article "HMC Spec Update Signals Healthy Adoption" which might give you an idea of an important area where POET could improve die-to-die interconnects. And yes, I know that POET could improve much more in that area …
