Like Mr Pierhal, I am well along the three score years allocated to a man on this mortal coil. I too have also been through the process of retirement, which for many can have its particular traumas.
Whilst it is probably true that 'to spend more time with the family' is a euphemism. For anyone on this board to speculate just what this commonly used euphemism is covering in Mr Pierhal's case is shameful, if not libellous as it tends to damage him in his profession.
I have observed on many occasions how in life, the last years of a person's career which has been otherwise successful, can be blighted by a few ill conceived comment by persons who have no real knowledge of the true circumstances.
The truth is that energy levels and tenacity are not good bedfellows with age. When considering the pressures that Mr Pierhal has weathered in the last years in trying to achieve the best for POET, I think we need to me more empathetic.
I appeal to this board to be more considerate and kind to the old chap and grateful for what he has achieved..
