@KROM and gilver,

It could well come to pass that Intel will build a device using OPEL's patents with or without a license. All the more need to partner up with one of the big boys before the POET tech hits the streets! Could you imagine a little company like POET fighting Intel in court? It's one thing to have patents; it's another to have the financial might to go into battle to defend them.

Luckily, there are more than just the patents protecting POET. There are also trade secrets which are unpublished and integral to the process. As an example, the annealing process must be performed for a specific duration. Five seconds more or less will destroy the lasers. This information and other data like it can't be found anywhere.

Also, at the end of one of fairchij's recordings Mark (I think it's Mark) can be heard to make the analogy with other junior miners on the venture which are thought to be prime takeover targets. He explained that most of the time the big boys are content to sit and wait for drill results and the NI 43-101 to prove up before making a move. Sure they could save a few pennies by jumping in early, but they would rather pay more and let the junior "do the grunt work" as Mark put it. So for Intel to try to reverse engineer POET at this point vs. letting OPEL complete the MS and license (or sell) POET, it could be a colossal was of time and resources. This also addresses the recurring question of why nobody has taken us out already (and indeed was the question which led to Mark making the analogy in the first place)
