In the article from 2016 that you post, Ringer-
Quote: Trudeau said......"I look forward to having more to say and [make an] announcement alongside many partners in the coming months," he said.
I agree, Ringer....Now would be the perfect time for Justin to make his announcement. Maybe he's just been patiently waiting all this time for Matawa to come to the table and say that they are ready to form a meaningful partnership. It is my firm belief that Justin knew someday that an invitation would be extended to him, so he could sit down and address Matawa's calls for financial reconciliation, proper infrastructure, and their desire to seek a partnership that would allow the Ring of Fire to move forward.
Till recently Matawa has not extended any sort of olive branch to the federal government, and instead, has only been focused on their issues with Ontario, and the Conservative Ford government. For Matawa to push the Feds for a partnership shows they are prepared to sit down and hammer out a deal. It will be for Trudeau and his team of Liberals to put together an agreement that is worthy of Matawa's signatures. Because this will not just be between one, or two, First Nations, but all 9 communities that represent Matawa. It is quite obvious from Webequie and Marten Falls approach to the Ring of Fire that they see this as an all or nothing scenario. Every community must get something out of any deal with the Feds, since the needs of the First Nations are ultimately Canada's responsibility.
There is no doubt in my mind that such an agreement between the levels of government and the Matawa First Nations has already been drafted ....There, of course, will be a few lines to be added, or subtracted, and then we'll have the signatures of 9 Matawa Chiefs.
