Indian Act, been there but too lazy to sort through the document. Hoped some here would have a short and concise version on the subject.
My curiosity is if they are exempt from paying for some things, say income tax, then are they entitled to all the services that governments provide to ordinary Canadians ex. police or fire protection. If they do not get all, then they might ask the miners employing them to not only cover them but also their family members for health or similar benefits.
What got me going, one of my relatives provides medical services and if a menonite does not pay some taxes (perhaps property) then is denied OHIP (Ontario Hospitalization Insurance) and they have to pay themselves for the health services.
Just look at how natives near Ring are asking for water or communications services now, before mines are in place. IMHO one has to earn first before being able to afford what ever.
Thanks to all for replying, Ed.
