Message: Re: Act now or miss out on opportunities, Hodgson warns- Taxes ???

Friends,

I am somewhat lost with the last line of comments by Hodgson....."his organization is lobbying to reinstate the mine tax."

From what I understand the current mine tax has an exemption for "remote" mines for a period of 5 years.

Intrigued by this comment, I went onto the OMA website and read the "Action Plan - Vision for Mining" PDF which has a link provided on there homepage.

Reading through this plan you will see it clearly stated, in this OMA document, that "the government must maintain the current mining tax rate."

So which is it???

Local communities could not get more of the benefits for a mine if there is no revenue stream from taxes. (Benefits from commerce, I can see)

Perhaps someone is willing to share their thoughts on what he meant. Is this something new that he and Bertolucci are cooking up?

I'm all for the "action now" part of the plan.

So perhaps someone on this board can put some clarity to his statement.
