Reeeeeally? I suggest that your point is based more on age old predjudice, however well earned it might have been, instead of present day reality. Regardless of the present economy, commodities from the ground will be in great demand as populations explode, power positions shift and the new cry becomes go north young man.....and go north they will if they want to eat. Toronto may be a hub but if it doesn't learn to produce anything it will watch an exodus to where there is production....jobs. The great depression saw a migration previously unequaled to where ever there was a hint of work. Things are still pretty calm relative to the States but people are out of work here too and they will go where the jobs are. In the 70's we saw a migration to Alberta and the oil rigs.....you know...oil. I still remember the tremendous growth out there and a semi-exodus from Ontario. Families were leaving in droves. The 70's were ending and the big recessions were about to hit. Most of Alberta and BC were originally Ontarians to begin with! Don't look now but the times they are a changin'....again.
