One way to get to know the company you are investing in is to accumulate information from the many sources available to us and develope scenarios on how the company will look and operate in the future. After all, it is the future that has value and if we are informed as to what the options are, we are far better equiped to manage our investment. As for influence, there has to be a significant happening in order to galvenize retail shareholders concern and outrage in order for us to make a difference. A new CEO or operational decisions won't do it like the ousting of Richard Nemis did. Then you need a champion like Glorieux and others who are willing to mount the attack.

With regards to due dilligence and discussion, I agree with you K, we need a good dialogue here. There are talented and knowledeable contributors and we all can learn from what is posted. There are always new information, new opinions that we may not agree with but conversely, they may change our way of thinking.
