It became painfully obvious to me over the last 6 months that many of the long term posters to this forum have such a strong belief in resources and in NOT that they had little or no diversification in their net worth holdings. Their NOT shares could have been mad money gone wild at $7, or a singular legacy type investment that had been largely unplanned. At the high, this would balloon as a % of their net worth. In other cases, it was a risk on overweight that backfired in the short term .

My New Years wish for all who post positively on this forum is that they look at their current holdings of all cash and securities and alternate liquid investments and try to make objective decisions as to whether their current diversification makes any sense. Due to severely depressed values, in some cases this might suggest increasing or decreasing positions in juniors, including NOT. I looked at my devastated portfolio, including all my $5 NOT shares, and said "What has to happen for this to go to $5 once again, and if those things happen, what other investments might be as good or better on a risk/reward basis ?" I concluded that Vale must be severely undervalued at $11 US (for the adr) if I see NOT at say $3 in the next two years. Yes, Vale could easily be a $100 stock in the next 5 years with no operating or execution risk if NOT can be a $10 stock in that same period. Rather than sell NOT, I decided to use debt to take up a position in Vale. Overall, while we are all opportunists and risk takers, we should not be blind to the huge number of relative opportunities that the market and economy are presenting us with. They will never be greater. Happy New Year to all.
