I worked in 1972 as a fire ranger on the James Baie territory, in Quebec. Hydro Quebec was then building a 375 mile winter road to haul the heavy equipment for the La Grande Hydro electric dam. The road was from Matagami to LG2 and winter briges had to go across high volume rivers such as the Nottaway river, the Eastmain river and the Rupert river. The rivers where water hosed some weeks to build a thick ice bridge for the equipment to be delivered.
