My suspicion is that he wasn't lying, in that he wasn't fully aware. Remember, we once (not so long ago) had an informal communique from IR that stated that the terms of some of the licensing agreements were "secret". Under such circumstances, do you think Lecky would fully advise anyone unless they had a truly critical need to know? Also keep in mind that the terms of such agreements typically are bilaterally proprietary (neither side wants the world to know for their own reasons), so stating anything about the terms could be a violation of the terms. So then it becomes a question of stating the truth and potentially killing the deal or fibbing to shareholders, and ultimately the question of which course of action is actually in the best interest of shareholders/all concerned.
