You're good with your shooting from the hip. Some of the most talented people I know do just that. Your on the right track, so to speak, but to implement truly interactive TV using an IP transport, it seems to me to be more than just media streams and hyperlinks. Think more along the lines of the interactivity of cable TV or satellite TV systems and their features. That sort of interactivity requires a real-time control "channel" and multiple parallel "sessions' of them. Then there are the user personalization elements, fixed network-to-mobile possibilities (want to see that recording you stored on your home DVR last night while riding the train on your way to work?), and many more. The landscape of digital media - whether riding on fixed or mobile networks - is changing.

Thanks for pointing me back to Milestones post. This parallels a thought I had while assembling my previous post. I asked myself how would the technology of both Crossflo and Avot create a synergism? To help answer this, I went back to a bit of reference material I found about a month ago while performing some DD (it is a few years old, but relevant):

http://www.calrhio.org/crweb-files/d...

My thought centered around video filed as part of the data in a medical record, and being able to share not only the text and still picture data of a medical record, but also video records, in a secure manner using data sharing standards including JGXDM, NIEM and HL7. This would require each records repository to possess Avot's hardware/software encoder (TipMotion), interfaced with the CDX software.

I do not know if there exist plans to develop a synergy between Crossflo's and Avot's technologies, but does entertain me to postulate these things. The mandates of late could be a great catalyst for this type of innovation. Even if there were low level plans in the making for something like this, I do not believe PTSC (or anyone in these organizations) would publicly comment on them until they were well developed, tested and proven.

BTW, your "near-real-time half-duplex" made Me laugh out loud. Not quite an oxymoron, of which I am a fan, but funny none-the-less. It's now time for me to go back to searching for that elusive Jumbo Shrimp.

Cheers,

DG
