And how goofy would THAT have looked? "We have so little confidence in our patents that we, the patent owners, request redundant validation by the USPTO".

And now ask yourself: if WE requested the re-exam, would it have been handled "ex parte"? If so, what would have been the point? If not, why would we want to open it up to everyone and his brother?
