I guess the demand for product is so poor that the producers are shutting down production. With the auto industry in a huge slump and sitting on a lot of inventory, the steel industry is likely shutting down as well. And I imagine there is a lot less demand for packaging of goods, which would explain the fibre price crashing as well.

I think I will go read the latest Investor's Digest and see what solace they might offer. They keep saying buy gold.... but the paradigms we are used to don't seem to apply these days.
