LB: Very nice map. It took me a while trying to find my orientation, hence I attached below the same picture but rotated 90 deg left for N to point straight up. This would help old-fashioned folks like myself to see that the RoF is on the top of page, the blue ribbon representing the slurry pipe (et al?) is running north/south along the esker corridor, Marten Fall is on the right side of the pipeline, and the yellow line is th old RR running from Nakina to Hearst. That would help the orientation, but you would need to turn your head to read the writing, or go back to the original figure, lol!
PDW: Your observation is quite interesting, especially from the the political angles. Getting the stuff out is one thing (the pipe, or the RR runing NS), the other thing is the value-added product (the gas-powered super converter... in Ontario), upgrading the old RR from Nakina to Hearst and onward to NorthBay (ONTC bailliwick), the Sorel connection for ss casting (to bring in the Quebec factor), another value added item and political overture, keeping in mind a Fed election is coming soon to the neighbourhood. The Fed would not mind to be seen as prominent party in Quebec, creating jobs for Quebecers, etc.
Perhaps, another option could be: replacing the pipe with the RR to transport the chromite to Quebec and do all the stuff there, before exporting. This would be unfortunate for Ontarians, but that gambit might push Premier Wynne into doing something for Ontario (spending some of the $1B money), or lose everything to Quebec.
Quebec is a lot more proactive, as far as investment in the province is concerned, compared to Ontario (e.g. the gov of Quebec is apparently talking with CLF with respect to saving/re-opening of Bloom Lake, while CLF is declaring bankrupcy for that operation (has it done that, or just considering it as a bargaining strategy for some gov subsidy?)
Premier Wynne should meet with her counterpart in Quebec to learn a thing or two from him with respect to creating a positive atmosphere for investment in Ontario, rather than spend time on poking people (who has money) in the eyes.
