It's worth every minute of the 12mins hearing directly from the Minister and members of the opposition (directly from the horse's mouth, without going through a translation/spin from the press).

Minister Gravelle seemed to talk very fast (SH lowboy said: "a super spin job") to avoid talking about the details, especially the cost of the original plan to divest/shutdown of the ONTCoperation that would save some $265M. Now the Auditor Gen said it would cost some $800M. This is a $1B difference. How could that happen...people use different math? The MPP for North Bay, Fedeli, called this a $1B scandal.

Apparently, after seeing the numbers in draft form, courtesy of the Auditor, the Government was more than ready to meet with the Union (met with the Union last week to consider a "transformational" approach, according to Fedeli).

Presumably, the huge savings for not shutting down the ONTC could be used by the Prov. to fund the NS corridor RR. Just roll the ONTC into a Port Authority an let the Fed sort out the rest. At least, 1000 jobs (with tax and economic spin-offs) in our northern communities would be saved. We have lost about 1000 jobs with Hershey and Kellogg plant shutdown. Another 1000 would not be a good thing, especially before (or after) X-mas.
