Along the same lines as what both Bluenoser and I have discussed with repsect to nickel mining in the area, a recent incident at the Montcalm mine (Xstrata) could make things interesting. The mine has had a setback with a "groundfall" and they will be a while before that can re-commence mining.

Ground movement suspends mine operations

Unplanned ground movement or a premature collapse of the mine workings at Montcalm Mine has forced the company to suspend operations for an undetermined amount of time.
About 130 contractors and employees have been affected by the suspension of operations, said Xstrata Nickel director of corporate affairs Peter Fuchs.
The ground movement led Xstrata to initiate a geotechnical review of the mine.
"We have fairly delayed underground operations at Montcalm," Fuchs said. "The safety of our workforce is paramount.
"The ground movement didn't result in any injuries and the actions we are taking now are intended to ensure the safety of everyone at the operation."
No workers were underground at the time of the ground movement, he said, which occurred following a stope blast.
It is the mine's policy to not have anyone underground at the time of a blast.
As for when employees will be allowed to return to work, Fuchs said that will be difficult to predict given the duration of the review.
"We are anticipating it to be a number of weeks before things get back to normal," Fuchs said.
"We're going to take whatever time is necessary to ensure the integrity of the operation and the safety of the workforce."
The Montcalm Mine is located 70 kilometres northwest of Timmins.
