Just to expand a little;

Picked up a 55 case of beer and two bottles of wine yesterday and noticed that GST is charged just like on gasoline. i.e. Tax on tax.

This was supposed to be a no-no, but is in actuality, the norm.

I agree that Canada needs to introduce a "Fair Tax", just like was proposed back in the early eighties.

30% would probably suffice, providing all other taxes were sent to box "thirteen".

If exemption was granted to all essential goods and services, then even those up to and including the so-called poverty line should have no complaints.

However, it would take a very brave leader/politician to "run with this ball".
