"I only ask ... as Congress looks at the timing and composition of its changes to the budget, that it does take into account that in the very near term the recovery is still rather fragile, and that sharp and excessive cuts in the very short term would be potentially damaging to that recovery," Bernanke told the Senate Banking Committee.”

Comment:

Suggest if BB wants to issue a warning and “potential” damage to any recovery? he should also lay out an alternative plan re: how to attack the financial situation.

Does he have access to a “miracle”?

What "shaky recovery" is he referring to, and what planet does he live on?

What does he see going forward that most Americans cannot see?

IMO, best to take your lumps while you can still “digest” them (but I think it is too late anyway), than put off the inevitable and be faced with an even larger, impossible situation.
